  • How can my 8th grader succeed in a curriculum that is mostly 9th grade topics if they haven't excelled up until now?
Our 8th graders find that in working on the High School Math 1 curriculum they get to make a new start. They don't really need to know their times tables. They just need to get really good with the calculator. Some would argue that we should go back and drill times tables and fractions. I would love to do that. But we have found that we can virtually guarantee student success on the Math 1 EOC by putting a lot of effort into problem analysis rather than calculations along with weekly practice on using the graphing calculator.
